The story of the Prodigal Son is featured in the Gospel today (Luke 15:1-3, 11-32).
It’s the story of each human life: God’s mercy stands on one side and the unfaithfulness of man on the other. “Father, I have sinned.” Penance alone can save us.
Our Father welcomes us with mercy. The sin and its eternal punishment are forgiven.
The Father receives us again as His children and celebrates a joyful banquet with us at Holy Communion.
The story of the Prodigal Son is an urgent call to repentance, self-examination, and conversion.
Our God is prodigal. His very nature is to give, the God who simply is divine love.
