Friends of the Rosary,
One of the saints we honor today is St. Veronica, featured in the Sixth Station of the Cross during the Sorrowful Mystery of Jesus carrying the Cross.
The station is called “Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus.” It depicts a woman from Jerusalem named Veronica who, in an act of kindness and charity, offers Jesus her veil to wipe his face while he falls beneath the weight of the cross.
According to tradition, when St. Veronica was so moved by pity, she pushed through the crowd past the Roman soldiers to reach Jesus.
She used her veil (sometimes called the “sudarium”) to wipe the blood and sweat from His face. The veil was imprinted with an image of Christ’s face.
St. Veronica is believed to be buried in the tomb in Soulac or the church of St. Seurin in Bordeaux, France.
Her veil, also called the “Sudarium,” is kept at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican in Rome. The relic is displayed annually on the 5th Sunday of Lent, Passion Sunday.
Ave Maria!
Jesus, I Trust In You!
St. Veronica, Pray for Us!
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
