Friends of the Rosary,
Today, in Matthew 13:1-9, Christ Jesus delivers the parable of the sower to a large crowd:
“A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”
The parable of the sower is in all three of the synoptic Gospels. The seed is God’s word, and the soils on which the seeds fell represent different ways humans receive and follow, or do not follow these teachings.
The parable warns us of circumstances and attitudes that can prevent anyone who has received the divine message from bringing forth a godly harvest.
Teachings falling upon a hardened or unprepared heart make that person sad and discouraged.
