Friends of the Rosary,
Christ Jesus is telling us, “Follow me,” exactly as he told Matthew two thousand years ago when the apostle was seated at a customs post collecting taxes — and we read in our Gospel today (Mt 9:9-13).
The story of the conversion of Matthew is meant to get into our minds so we reorient ourselves to God, abandoning the world’s preoccupations.
Then, we hear what happened after Matthew’s conversion:
“While he was at the table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples.
The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples,
“Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
He heard this and said,
“Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.
Go and learn the meaning of the words,
I desire mercy, not sacrifice.
I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”
in other words, Jesus loves sinners, and He doesn’t require perfection when he approaches them.
And as the psalm of today (Matthew 4:4) states,
“One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Ave Maria!
Jesus, I Trust In You!
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
