Today, June 12th is the Memorial Day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Pope Pius XII instituted today’s feast in 1944, consecrating the world to the pure heart of the Virgin Mother.
The goal was to obtain by Mary’s intercession “peace among nations, freedom for the Church, the conversion of sinners, the love of purity and the practice of virtue” (Decree of May 4, 1944).
The love and virtues of the Heart of Mary along with the Sacred Heart of Jesus have been preached by many saints. The Co-Redemtrix and the Redeemer, Mother and Son’s hearts, united by their boundless love to humanity.
A double devotion, with the heart of Mary, pierced with a sword, as Simeon’s prophecy forecasted and we pray in the Fourth Joyful Mystery today.
