Friends of the Rosary:
In the Gospel today (Mt 10:26-33), Jesus said to the twelve apostles:
“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.”
The soul, which puts us in contact with the living God and connects us with the divine power, lasts forever. It‘s our place of safety. Meanwhile, the body is temporary: it passes.
The saints, especially the martyrs, got their fears in the right order. They feared God but not the wickedest people around them.
They worried about what God wanted them to do. They didn’t have an easy life. They experienced threat and persecution, and the Evil One was attacking them.
They feared no one, finding courage in the struggle. And now they enjoy the glory of Heaven.
