• In Memoriam of Maria Blanca: Testimonials
Friends of the Rosary:
Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, the beginning of forty days of prayer, abstinence, fasting, giving alms, and penance, marked with the symbol of ashes.
Abstinence from eating meat is observed on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during Lent. Fasting means that on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday we eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.
Ashes are imposed on the faithful during Mass, after the homily, as a sign of fragility and mortality. It symbolizes the attitude of internal penance to which all the baptized are called, and the need to be redeemed by the mercy of God.
The ashes are made from the palms used at the previous Passion Sunday ceremonies.
We leave them on our forehead as a witness to our faith.
Ave Maria!
Jesus, I Trust In You!
