In many places today is observed the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord into Heaven.
We might think that Jesus Christ lives in a far realm called Heaven, from where He distantly oversees the human project. That’s not accurate.
Our Brother Jesus and Mother Mary live among us. They are fully involved with our struggle, helping to bring our crosses. With our prayer, our Holy Rosary, and when we invoke the Father by saying “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” we are merging Heaven and Earth.
Christianity uniquely enjoys a Living God Who dwells with us at every moment. By the mystery of prayer, we make it possible, even if most of the time we don’t see it. That’s mostly because our senses cheat us and our lack of humility blinds us.
Last Friday, we saw in Brooklyn, New York, a statue of Jesus smashed. Why was that? The attacker, induced by Evil spirits, knows that Christ is alive.
Moreover, believers and non-believers know that the Holy Spirit is imprinted in our souls, and sooner or later, we will recognize it. Jesus and Mary — all love and mercy — are truly alive, both suffering and rejoicing with mankind.
