One day St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, the contemporary mystic and apostle of Divine Mercy, complained to Jesus Christ that she felt she was a burden for the sisters of the congregation.
As St. Faustina tells in her Diary, the Son of God replied: “You live not for yourself, but for the souls.” And He added: “Other souls will benefit from your suffering. Your prolonged suffering will give them the light and strength to agree to My will.”
The Divinity reveals that suffering and struggle when offered is a source of healing for our neighbors. This is a deep mystery of our faith. Through His sorrowful passion, Jesus offered his body, blood, soul, and divinity out of love for us sinners.
Like Him, we must understand that we don’t live for ourselves but for the souls.
