Friends of the Rosary:
Today, October the 7th, is the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, a feast instituted by Pope St. Pius V in thanksgiving for the naval victory over the Turks at the battle of Lepanto on this day in the year 1571, a favor due to the recitation of the Rosary.
Pope St. Pius V and all Christians prayed the Rosary, which at that time was called the Psalter of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This victory saved Europe — and the world — from being overrun by the forces of Islam.
All families are invited to rediscover the beauty of this “contemplative and Christocentric prayer, inseparable from the meditation of Sacred Scripture.
As Pope Benedict XVI said, “This is the prayer of the Christian who advances in the pilgrimage of faith, in the following of Jesus, preceded by Mary.”
Successively, popes have urged the faithful to pray the Rosary to bring down God’s blessing on the Church and His people.
Today’s memorial is a festival of thanksgiving for the countless benefits bestowed on Christendom through the Rosary of our blessed Queen, Mary, Help of Christians.
Ave Maria!
Jesus, I Trust In You!
