Friends of the Rosary,

Today, the Third Sunday of Easter, the main reading in the Gospel (St. John, 21:1-19) recounts the Risen Christ’s appearance and the conferring of the Primacy of Peter.

This promise that Simon would be the foundation, the source of strength and unity, in the new Christian community, was made factual on the occasion described here by John.

His fellow Apostles and the first Christians recognized this position of authority, and it is evident in almost every page of Acts, the book that describes the infant Church.

In today’s reading, the apostles’ fishing expedition is also highlighted as a symbol of the Church (the barque of Peter) across space and time, with its apostolic task of seeking souls.
