Jesus Christ came to Earth to save us through His life, passion, death, and resurrection. He showed us the Father's mercy and instructed us to be witnesses of mercy. His disciples — as we read in the Acts of the Apostles this Easter – were recognized for sharing their mercy with anyone. They were kind, compassionate, tenderhearted, and friendly to one another. They forgave one another while taking care of everyone's needs. They were imitating Christ's mercifulness. Today, we must be like the apostles of the post-paschal church — the early Catholic church born after the Resurrection. At the beginning of this troubled XXI century, we must walk toward this type of Church by embracing the mystery of Divine Mercy and putting it into action. We ask the Most Holy Virgin Mary to turn Her eyes of mercy toward us, helping us to develop a merciful behavior as an example to others. Ave Maria! Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed! Jesus has risen! The motive of our joy is clear: sin is destroyed, death overcome, and the certitude of the resurrection of our body and immortality obtained. The Son of God, through the sacrifice of His passion, has purchased our salvation and eternal life. An undeserved gift of love for sinful humanity. We must give thanks, praise the Holy Trinity, and immensely rejoice. The Resurrection of Jesus from the dead — revealed to us by faith and factually confirmed by over 500 witnesses, including Mary and the apostles — is the fullness of God's revelation. His broken body, with mortal wounds still visible, rests in peace in the grave, while has His soul descended to the dead. We meditate upon his agony and cruel death upon the Cross. The disciples scattered, filled with fear and confusion. The Most Holy Virgin Mary held the body of Jesus in her arms, sharing his sacrifice. Imagine her sorrowful day. Mary kept vigil, faithfully trusting that her Son would rise. Despite the pain, the glorious heart of Blessed Mother was full of hope and joyful expectation. The entire Church is represented in the Sorrowful Mary — la Dolorosa, in Spanish — awaiting the victorious triumph of her Son over death. In the midst of the horror of the Cross, Our Lady of Sorrows allowed the divine gift of hope to grow within her. Mother Mary Pray for Us! Jesus, I trust in You! Today, Mass is not celebrated. We observe Holy Friday as part of the Paschal Triduum preceding Easter Sunday. It coincides with the Jewish observance of Passover. For Catholics, it's a fasting and prayer day. There is no celebration of the Eucharist. In the afternoon, ideally at three o'clock, we attend the celebration of the Lord's Passion, including the Veneration of the Cross. We say the prayer of surrender to the will of the Father in Heaven: "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit (Luke 23:46)". The Father accepted the ultimate sacrifice of His Son's earthly life for the salvation of the world. We gaze upon the crucifixion of Jesus and reflect on His brutal agony and earthly death. We see Jesus’ total surrender as an act of perfect love for the Father — an act into which we are invited to participate. We use this prayer as a way of uniting ourselves with the eternal Son.
