She was known for her miracles and ecstasies. She was given the stigmata, as well. Thousands came to see her, to be converted by her. She was a helper and a consoler in every need. Her influence reached ecclesiastical matters: she persuaded cardinals and princes to promise allegiance to the Rome pontiff. Even Pope Gregory XI returned from Avignon to Rome. During His public ministry, Jesus Christ posed a timeless question: "Will the Son of Man, when he comes, find faith on earth?" (Luke 18:8) The Devil and its allies seek to disrupt prayer since it is what nourishes faith. Our success as individuals is based on prayer. Having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and His divine Mother is what makes us flourish, as individuals and as a society. Only a prayerful life gives us peace, hope, and freedom. Mother Teresa said: "We are not called to be successful, but faithful." Faith — which is a graceful gift from Above — is what makes us successful. This means that we must permanently take care of our spiritual health. Prayer opens the door to the Holy Spirit. If we are arrogant, ignorant, and unable to forgive, we fall and poison our souls. In the passage of Acts of the Apostles (Acts 3:13-15, 17-19) that we read yesterday, St. Peter said that the Author of Life was put to death out of ignorance. People at that time denied the Holy and the Righteous One. Today it isn’t much different. With our offenses and insults, we crucify the Holy One. Ignorance doesn’t absolve the sin. Modern society has excluded the Divinity from its life and moreover threatens to suffocate holiness as a virtue. The first joyful mystery of today refers to the humility of Mary. Our Mother in Heaven, co-redeemer, and mediatrix of all grace, will help us to get rid of all ignorance and unforgiveness. Ave Maria!
