As we are reading today in the Gospel (Lk 19:45-48), Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things, saying to them: "It is written, My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves." At that time, the temple was the economic, political, and religious center of life. It was the dwelling place of God on earth. As the Messiah, Christ Jesus was trying to turn the temple into a place of prayer. Fearing for their economic and political power, the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people rejected Jesus' message. In today’s Gospel (Lk 17:26-37), Jesus says that the days of his Second Coming will be like the days of Noah. "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all." In Noah’s time, sin was dominant. Humans decided to ignore God. It was a mess. A flood came and a righteous man built a giant boat, an ark, in the middle of the desert. Representatives of all the animal species, as well as Noah and his family, went on board. Salvation affected the whole of creation. Noah was a prophet sent by God and his ark to the temple and the Church of Salvation. The tribulation will take place before Jesus comes for the second time.
