We celebrate today the Memorial Day of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus. Our affection professed toward Joachim and Anne is an extension of the devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the home of Joachim and Anne, Mary received her training to be the Mother of God and played a critical part in the work of the Redemption. Since the Middle Ages, numerous churches, chapels, and confraternities were dedicated to Joachim and Anne, as a very early model of Christian marriage. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! He said in his letter to the Colossians (Col 1:24-28): "I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church, of which I am a minister." Suffering is consubstantial to human being, because of the original sin in our first ancestors, Adam and Eve. They fall into pride, in the same way we are constantly falling into multiple dysfunctions and errors. It’s our fallen, sinful, nature. Among humans, only the Blessed Virgin Mary, immaculately conceived, and John the Baptist, who received the Holy Spirit in the womb of his mother, didn’t commit sin. (Jesus was human and divine). The point is that we all bring our own cross — or crosses — and the way to handle this sorrow is by offering it to God as a ransom for our sins and the sins of other men and women. Ave Maria! July 18, 2022, Holy Rosary (Joyful Mysteries)

• July 18, 2021, Today’s Holy Rosary on YouTube — Daily broadcast at 7:30 pm ET • Audio Podcast of this Rosary Available Here Now! With Jesus Christ, the whole truth was revealed. The word of God was manifested to humankind, and since then our earthly life is quite different. We understood human existence, as it was designed by the Divinity. Like St. Paul wrote to the Colossians (Col 1:24-28) — and we read yesterday— "the word of God, the mystery hidden from ages and from generations past. But now it has been manifested to his holy ones." We rejoice in this revelation. What’s sad is that many in our society, blocked by ignorance and pride, do not accept the plan of salvation, and prefer to live in sin. We all are sinners. The difference is that the faithful are actively pursuing perfection in Christ. Ave Maria! In today Sunday’s reading, (Lk 10:38-42), we recreate the scene of two faithful sisters, Mary and Martha, in her home with Jesus. Mary was delighted, seated at the feet of Jesus listening to Him speak, while Martha, was busy, burdened with much serving. Jesus explains that there is no need to worry and be anxious when Jesus talks. Martha is the symbol of active, apostolic life, and Mary is contemplation. Both are part of the Christian life, and both are needed to reach the Divinity. What matters is to always have Christ at the center of our life. Ave Maria! July 16, 2022, Memorial of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Holy Rosary (Joyful Mysteries)

• July 16, 2021, Today’s Holy Rosary on YouTube — Daily broadcast at 7:30 pm ET • Audio Podcast of this Rosary Available Here Now! Today, July 16th is the Memorial day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Nuestra Señora del Carmen, in Spanish. In the 13th century, an order of hermits, called "Brothers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel," lived on Mount Carmel, near the Fountain of Elijah, in northern Israel. Its leader St. Simon Stock, received a visit from the Blessed Mother, giving him a Brown Scapular, and telling him to promote devotion to it. The Scapular symbolized Mary's special protection and called the wearers to consecrate themselves to her in a special way. Many popes and saints have strongly recommended wearing the Brown Scapular. It stands for the decision to: – Follow Jesus like Mary: – Be open to God and to his will. – Be guided by faith, hope, and love. – To pray at all times – To discover God present in all that happens around us. For centuries the Carmelite Orden was seen as specially related to Mary, championing the mystery of her Immaculate Conception. Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint John of the Cross founded the Discalced Carmelite order, and Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus believed that Mary cured her of illness. Ave Maria!
