He said to them: "You impose on people burdens hard to carry, but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them". (LK 11:42-46) Today, the world is in peril from the well-organized anti-Christian forces. But also the Church is equally in danger from the enemy within. In 1965, Our Lady of Carmel of Garabandal said to the visionary girls that "Many Cardinals, many Bishops, and many priests are on the road to perdition and taking many souls with them." Later, in 1972, Pope Paul VI hinted at the infiltration of the darkness. He said that it seemed that "the smoke of Satan has entered the temple of God". Friends, we all are sinners and we need to be able to discern the attacks of the enemy. One type of assault comes from those suggest that we should abandon the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is a daily prayer to the Immaculate Mary and the Holy Trinity. After the Holy Mass, comes the Rosary. Let's keep a vigilant eye on those who do not revere the Rosary, or plot against it. In the 16th century, the Virgin Mary intervened at the request of Pope St Pius V and avoided the invasion of Europe by a very powerful Islamic army. That would have been the end of Christianity in the Western Hemisphere. Pope Pius V did not only prayed, but he organized a fleet called the Holy League to confront the navy of the Ottoman Empire. He also promoted Rosaries all across Europe and went on a personal incessant prayer, Rosary after Rosary. The European population was so scared then and reacted with such faith in Mary that Christians won the Battle of Lepanto, in Greece. As we say in the Memorare, when we implore for the help to Our Blessed Mother, She always answers. In Portugal and Austria, in the 20th Century, massive Rosary prayers stopped the Communist threat. Would we end up with a pandemic today, if millions of people were praying the Rosary? No one in our community has any doubt about it, right? Let’s hold our most salvific tool. We just need to put our minds and senses on the Lord. He provides everything we need. We might think that this is not realistic considering the issues, problems, and difficulties we all face every day. But as St Paul wrote in one of his letters (PHIL 4:6-9) "the peace of God surpasses all understanding; it will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul told us "have no anxiety", and gave us a solution to overcome our problems: "By prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God". To get a better understanding of this and other mysteries we daily pray the Holy Rosary. Today, we reflect upon the passion and death of our Savior. The owner of the vineyard is the Lord and we are the tenants, the wretched men who insult the Author of Life and make the mistake of thinking that we own the world. Naturally, the outcome of this behavior is a total disaster for our souls. Friends, we are just tenants. Everything we have is on a loan. Even our own lives. Never forget that our lives are not about us and we are under the Divinity's judgment. In our blindness and pride, we refuse to listen to Jesus Christ and his Blessed Mother. We have received a fertile vineyard in the form of many gifts and talents. If we are smart, we should use them for God. More specifically, to help to build the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth. He was a “giant of holiness”, as Pope Benedict XVI recalled. Francis’ father was wealthy but the saint chose a life of poverty. His way of life would give rise to the Franciscan movement, attracting a huge number of followers. Francis also shared Jesus’ sufferings through his imitation of Christ. Two years before his death, he miraculously received Christ's wounds, the stigmata, in his hands, feet, and side. St. Francis of Assisi, who spent two decades on missionary preaching and penance, taught that “the secret of true happiness is to become a saint, close to God”.
