Today, on the Saturday after the Solemnity of Corpus Christi and one day after the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The Immaculate Heart of Mary signifies her pure love for God, her maternal love for her Divine Son, and her motherly and compassionate love for her sinful children here below.
Her Holy Heart reflects her interior life, her joys and sorrows, her virtues and hidden perfections.
In 1854, Pope Pius IX declared the dogma of the Immaculate Conception—the truth that Mary, through a special grace, was preserved free from original sin from the first moment of her conception, as the Angel Gabriel referred to her at the Annunciation as full of grace.
God wanted to prepare a worthy vessel —the true Ark of the Covenant— for the reception of his Word.
As St. Augustine said, “Mary cooperated through charity in the work of our redemption.”
Refuge of Sinners, the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a source of numberless graces today.
