Friends of the Rosary,
Evil political and societal structures grow like weeds on Earth as an extension of dark power. We face them through non-stop prayer, avoiding obsessing about the works of the Evil One.
Christ the Lord revealed that no entity or power can separate us from Him. We rest confident in His eternal Word.
At that time, and as we read in the Gospel today (Matt 14:1-12), the wicked tetrarch Herod had John the Baptist beheaded, trying to disrupt the nascent Church of God.
He made the prophet John the Baptist a protomartyr of Christ’s followers, the first of many martyrs.
Today, from atheistic and Islamic countries to Western secular nations, Christians continue to be persecuted. In too many places, they are risking their lives for their faith. Their courage is admirable, and even if we don’t mention them in our daily prayer, we recognize them as our contemporary martyrs facing evil earthly powers.
