Friends of the Rosary,
Today’s Gospel (Mt 1:1-17) features the book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ. We see how God became one of us in all our grace and embarrassment.
“The total number of generations
from Abraham to David
is fourteen generations;
from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations;
from the Babylonian exile to the Christ,
fourteen generations.”
As Bishop Barron wrote, “Matthew showed that Jesus didn’t just appear out of the blue. He came out of a long line of characters: saints, sinners, cheats, prostitutes, murderers, poets, kings, insiders, and outsiders. All leading to the Christ.”
Look at King David, a great figure, the king who united the nation, but also an adulterer and a murderer.
Seeing that God had all kinds of human ancestors is good news for us. It means God brought Christ to birth, even in people like us.
St. Irenaeus told us that the Incarnation had been taking place over a long period, with God gradually accustoming himself to the human race.
Ave Maria!
Jesus, I Trust In You!
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
