Friends of the Rosary,
If we truly want to become disciples of the Lord Jesus, we must fully reorder our views, feelings, ideas, aspirations, and goals — everything. Almost everything that our modern culture proclaims seems to be worthless. The Kingdom of God requires a total commitment. Only the saints, canonized or anonymous, are that smart.
Jesus said, as we read this week (Matthew 10:34—11:1):
“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me,
and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
and whoever does not take up his cross
and follow after me is not worthy of me.
Whoever finds his life will lose it,
and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
There are many good things in our lives, including our country, communities, hobbies, and families. But if we make them the ultimate or final good, our spiritual life — and our own Christian identity — will collapse.
This is a fact; anyone can notice it, without a preacher around. And it’s neither an apocalyptic threat nor is it.
The human being is wired for God and God alone. Losing our lives for Christ means finding life. Being stuck to earthly attachments means failure.
Only through the Grace can we defeat human logic with its fears attached.
