Friends of the Rosary,
In today’s main reading (Matthew 13:31–35), Jesus unveiled a mystery to the crowds:
“The Kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed
that a person took and sowed in a field.
It is the smallest of all the seeds,
yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants.
It becomes a large bush,
and the birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.”
He spoke to them another parable.
“The Kingdom of heaven is like yeast
that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour
until the whole batch was leavened.”
Through these two parables, Jesus Christ describes the transforming power of the Kingdom.
The Church is the mustard seed or the leaven seeking to transform the world. It’s the City of God making its way within the City of Man, in Augustine’s terms.
As the mystical body of Jesus, the Church makes present Christ’s loving and forgiving mind and will.
As members of His Body, through baptism we embody the spirit of God and exercise the mission of going in search of sinners, bearing salvation.
