Today, Holy Thursday Evening is the Mass of the Lord’s Supper — which includes the washing of the feet of the apostles, in imitation of Christ’s humble act of deep service and merciful love.
As we enter into the holiest days of the year, we walk with Jesus Christ in the celebration of the Passover with His disciples, and His prayer and arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Tomorrow, Good Friday, we will dwell with Him through the stations of the Cross. On Saturday, we will sit in silent adoration of His tomb as we await the Resurrection while invoking Our Lady of Sorrows.
Today, we will hear Jesus’ central message: “I give you a new commandment: Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34).
We will also reflect on the great mysteries of the Institution of the Most Holy Eucharist — His greatest gift to humanity — and the Agony in the Garden.
The institution of Priesthood was established today, too, as Jesus prepared the apostles to be the leaders of His church.
The Eucharistic Adoration after Mass can be an excellent moment for prayer and contemplation.
