Friends of the Rosary:
Arrogance and pride are our first sins. They led us to the original sin through the disobedience of Adam and Eve. In many ways, we continue in the same manner. Many behave like little gods, deciding what is right and wrong.
Consider this week’s reading (Matthew 20:1-16) where laborers hired by a landowner demanded to be paid more money than those who worked fewer hours. The landowner — the Creator of the universe — replied:
‘My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’ Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
The ways of God are not our ways. His deeds are perfect and eternal. Questioning Him with our impoverished minds and sinful condition is absurd. We should surrender and ask Him to take care of everything!
