Friends of the Rosary,
In today’s Gospel (Matthew 21:23–27), the chief priests and elders question Jesus: “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?”
They missed the fact that Jesus speaks with authority of being God himself, as he said to the followers of John the Baptist, as we learned yesterday on Gaudete Sunday.
“Go and tell John what you hear and see:
the blind regain their sight,
the lame walk,
lepers are cleansed,
the deaf hear,
the dead are raised,
and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.
And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.”
It’s the same God who says, “Lazarus, come out!” (John 11:43), and the dead man comes out of the grave. He rebukes the wind there is calm (Mark 4:39).
And Christ’s authority is the wisdom of his Church.
“If we are simply the guardians of one interesting philosophical perspective among many, then we are powerless. Our power comes—and this remains a great mystery—only when we speak with the authority of Jesus Christ,” Bishop Barron writes.
Ave Maria
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
Please give us the grace to respond with joy!
