Friends of the Rosary,
Today, Second Sunday of Advent, as we continue our journey to celebrate the nativity of Christ, we see John the Baptist, the voice crying out in the desert, preaching and calling to conversion (Matthew 3:1-12):
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”
“I am baptizing you with water, for repentance,
but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I.
I am not worthy to carry his sandals.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
John’s call is a pressing invitation to open our hearts and welcome the Son of God. He advises us to “prepare the way of the Lord,” by genuine repentance of our past sins and a firm resolution to straighten “the ways of the Lord,” not deviating from the true Christian way of life in the future.
As Benedict XVI wrote, “The ‘voice’ of the great prophet asks us to prepare the way for the coming Lord in the deserts of today, internal and external deserts, thirsting for the water of life which is Christ.”
Through our everyday behavior in this life, we will determine our eternal fate.
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
Please give us the grace to respond with joy!
