Friends of the Rosary,
The Catholic Church celebrates today the feast of St. Jacinta (1910-1920), the youngest of the Fatima visionaries. Along with his brother Francisco — whose feast is April 4 — and their cousin Lucia Santo witnessed the apparitions of Mary in the fields of Fatima in 1917.
Jacinta and Francisco, both under 12 years old, were the youngest non-martyrs to be beatified in the history of the Church.
They died of influenza a few years later after the apparitions, offering her suffering for the conversion of sinners, peace in the world, and the Holy Father.
Lucia dos Santos would become a Carmelite nun and was still living when Jacinta and Francisco were beatified in 2000 by Pope St. John Paul II.
Today, the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima is visited by up to 20 million people a year.
Today’s Mass concerns fasting and teaches us what true fasting is.
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
Please give us the grace to respond with joy!
