Friends of the Rosary,
Happy New Year in Christ!
Today, January 8, we celebrate Our Lady of Prompt Succor, a devotion started in 1802 in New Orleans by the Ursuline Order. This title translates to “Our Lady of Instant Help.”
Our Lady of Prompt Succor is the Patroness of the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.
Since 1928, after many favors granted and prayers answered, a Mass of Thanksgiving is offered each January 8 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in New Orleans.
Also, on day fifteen of Christmas, we continue reflecting on the Epiphany and tradition of the “Three Holy Kings,” as they are known in most countries of Europe.
The Magi were called saints for the first time in the first half of 1133, and since then, the devotion has spread countrywide.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus demonstrates his control over nature by walking on the sea. He invites us to “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid.”
As St. John wrote in his first letter (4:11-18), “There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear.”
Ave Maria!
Jesus, I Trust In You!
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
