We celebrate today the Baptism of Our Lord, his second epiphany or manifestation. Through this event — that brings to an end the season of Christmas — intervenes the entire Trinity. At his baptism, Christ was proclaimed the “Beloved Son” of the Father, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him.
At Christ’s baptism, the heavens were open. At our baptism heaven was opened to us and we become the adopted sons of God.
The Son of God humbled Himself at the hand of John the Baptist, taking upon the sins of the whole world and burying them in the waters of the Jordan. Jesus inaugurated then his public activity by stepping into the place of sinners’.
