According to the Act of the Apostles (Act 14:21-27), Paul and Barnabas preached in Iconium, Antioch, and other cities of the Roman Empire by strengthening the spirits of the disciples and by exhorting them to persevere in the faith.
When proclaiming the good news, the two saints were remembering the importance of carrying the cross.
They literally said: “It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.”
If we follow Jesus, we must share the suffering and the sorrows of life, purifying ourselves and preparing for the Paschal joy of the resurrection.
Is this dramatic? It is. However, note this: when we accept our cross — or crosses — the suffering decreases considerably.
