Friends of the Rosary,

Today, October 18th, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of St. Luke, the author of the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles.

He was a physician, born in Antioch, Syria, and he accompanied St. Paul on part of his missionary travels and during his stay in prison in Rome, as recorded in the Acts, which also details the life of the early Christian communities.

He was a man of letters and an artist painting the Blessed Virgin’s portrait, although he never met Mary and Jesus in the flesh. His name means “bringer of light” (= Luke).

St. Luke’s Gospel is the Gospel of the Merciful Heart of Jesus and “Paul’s Gospel”, as well.

It emphasizes that Christ is the salvation of all men, and it recounts some of our Lord’s most moving parables, like those of the lost sheep and the prodigal son.

Ave Maria!
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!

Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
Please give us the grace to respond with joy!
