Today is the Memorial Day of Saints Joachim and Anne, parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and earthly grandparents of Jesus. In many places, today is also the world day to honor grandparents and the elderly.
Saints Joachim and Anne educated Mary the Mother of Jesus, with love and devotion to God, teaching her the law. Beyond this, we know very little; there are no mentions of them in the Bible or Gospels.
Joachim and Anne serve as role models for parents and both deserve to be honored and emulated. They played an important role in the work of the Redemption.
