Friends of the Rosary:
We remember today Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American saint. Born in New York in 1774, she was a mother of five children and a convert to Catholicism.
After her husband’s death, she founded the American Sisters of Charity, the organization that began Catholic schools throughout the U.S. and especially helped with the education of underprivileged children.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton established her first Catholic school in Baltimore, a religious community in Maryland, as well as orphanages in Philadelphia and New York City. She trained teachers and prepared textbooks for use in the schools.
She famously proposed to do in our daily work the will of God in the manner He wills. She explained: “I know that is God’s will by those who direct me; whatever they bid me do if it is ever so small in itself, is the will of God for me.”
Ave Maria!
Jesus, I Trust In You!
