What Jesus said two thousand years ago regarding how to be number one continues to shock us. (MT 20:20-28):
“Whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.”
Joy and peace flourish on us when we serve, but not when we come to be served.
Our society is broken because it’s all about self-centeredness and selfishness. We make ourselves the center of everything and we are just concerned only with our own interests.
This is contrary to Jesus’ teaching. Like the Lord said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
