Yesterday’s reading highlighted the critical importance of living ever vigilant, with our lamps lit.
Our Lord described what happened at a Jewish wedding festival and how five foolish virgins were excluded from the nuptials.
This parable of the wedding feast, as told by our Lord, describes the kingdom of God and forewarns that many Christians will be excluded from the heavenly and eternal nuptials.
On receiving the sacrament of baptism, Christians start on the road to heaven; they receive the Lord’s invitation to the heavenly nuptials, but this is only the beginning.
We are called to prepare ourselves by living according to the law of God for the moment when the call will go forth, and each individual’s fate will be decided.
We have received the fullness of God’s revelation and have been offered a special place in his marriage festival.
Behaving with negligence will make us lose this golden opportunity.
Aided by God’s grace, it is up to us now to decide!
