Today is Holy Saturday — Sabbatum Sanctum is its liturgical name — the day of the Lord’s rest after his intense suffering.
The enemies of the truth are furious, spreading lies and slander. Meanwhile, faithful, still in mourning, meditate on the Passion and Death of Christ and on His Descent into Hell. Jesus Christ descended to the dead to announce liberation from darkness to his ancestors.
The entire Church is represented in the Blessed Virgin Mary, as she keeps vigil at the Lord’s tomb while awaiting his Resurrection and triumph over death.
After nightfall, the Easter Vigil is celebrated, anticipating the paschal joys of the Resurrection and the gladness that overflows the fifty days of Easter until Pentecost.
