Friends of the Rosary:
Today in the New Testament, we hear Jesus’ passage of the Beatitudes (Mt 5:1-12).
Our Lord went up the mountain not to receive the Law, as happened with Moses in the Old Testament. Jesus turns the universe upside down with the Beatitudes, a title that stems from the Latin noun beātitūdō, meaning “happy”, “lucky,” or “blessed.”
When He said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit,” it means, How lucky you are if you are not addicted to material things. It’s all about realizing that our deepest desire is for God, and not for temporarily comforting things.
The blessed ones are the weak ones, those who are not exalted by their arrogance of power, money, or selfishness.
Christ Jesus offers a new way, opposite to the worldly, momentary, and imperfect happiness, but the true, everlasting joy: the one we achieve by carrying and following the Cross.
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven.
Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
Ave Maria!
Jesus, I Trust In You!
